Abstract personal piece.
Made off a movement scratch sketch I did that was felt like it was filled with motion, but also strangely still in parts.
I worked gradually at the piece, making sure I didn't remove any of the parts despite the impossible angles and unclear features, as I wanted to retain the essence of the piece as it presented to me, which is by definition abstract.
The figure (dancer) stands on a still lake and performs a ritual, casting fiery light outwards in sweeping arcs, which appear to be guiding souls towards them. Wandering souls can be seen illuminated beneath the waters, drawn to the light, and they appear to be taken up towards the figure's cloak in 2 separate columns of light/energy. There is a duality and ambiguity as to the fate of the souls who are collected, as some appear to be visible swimming through the figure's clothing towards an unknown destination, while others share appearance with the flames being produced by the figure to draw in the souls.
Do the souls that are collected only work to fuel the very light that draws them to the dancer in the first place?
Are the souls aware of what awaits them?
What is the purpose of this supposed cycle, if any?
Where did I leave my keys?
